ABOUT US

Golden Quill Press or GQP as we call it...was started in New York in 1998, by writers, editors and publishers. These professionals had worked in the publishing field for over twenty years and were seeing how difficult it was to get published.  The best seller lists were generally reflecting the same authors and the same major publishers.  So how was a first-time novelist going to get noticed?

Mission Statement:

Our Mission is to advance the written word by providing a forum for people of all ages who are interested in writing, through education, support, networking and in the creation and publication of written materials.

Vision Statement:

Our Vision is to promote the written word, and open the idea of writing to a wider segment of the population while assisting writers in the publication of their literary materials.

Motto:

Serving the needs of creative and business writers,

from an idea…to a finished story..as much or as little as needed!

Company History:

In their effort to help writers find an alternative to expensive self-publishing Golden Quill Press offered Cooperative Publishing, a custom designed system for the writer to choose what services they wanted and how many books they needed to print. This feature continues to give writers the ability to see their work in print sooner, easier and cheaper and to avail themselves of the advice and expertise of the professionals at Golden Quill Press.

The principals, Francine Barish-Stern  and Bobbi Madry also responded to writer’s needs and put together a package of services and educational workshops, books and individual training that helped writers learn the ins and outs of their craft.

Then in 2005, Golden Quill Press went one step further.  As a result of years of workshops, forums, and individual training, Barish-Stern and Madry began writing a text/workbook, “From An Idea to your Finished Story.” This writer’s guide was an interactive journey through the writing world.  The book was so well received that over the years, many writers have used the methods of HOW TO WRITE YOUR BOOK, to turn their ideas into a finished and published  story.

For the fifth edition printing in 2018 a new cover was created and the name was changed to, “HOW TO WRITE YOUR BOOK, From An Idea to Your Published Story.”

Also, to reach out to as many people interested in writing as possible, in 2006 all writing services were offered on-line.

Additionally, hundred’s of books have been edited by GQP for self-publication  or other publishing houses since 1998.

Over the years Golden Quill Press has partnered with other companies to help writers.  One such company is Greetings on Gold. Many writers get their experience writing greeting cards, so in 2002 Golden Quill Press and Greetings on Gold joined together to help writers publish their poems and verse onto Elegant Goldtone Metal Greeting Cards.

fbsb   Francine Barish-Stern has been a writer since she was 13 and has worked as a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines,  including Town Magazine and Network Magazine.  She has written many award-winning poems, and stories, including "Rainbow City," which won the ACOR prize for arts related works.  Barish-Stern  studied at the Academy of Music and Theatre in New York, and used her acting and teaching background, when she co-wrote “The WE Nobody Knows,” for Crown Players. She has received many awards from New York State for her work with youth, school workshops and her “Tell It To The Future,” seminars, based on that published book.

From 1998 to the present Barish-Stern has been the Executive Director for The Write Source and Golden Quill Press, responsible for editing, manuscript preparation, publication and marketing, as well as teaching writing classes and offering workshops.  Her approach to writing from an acting eye, made her writing workshops fun and very productive.  During her management, Golden Quill Press has written and published many books in-house, including: TELL IT TO THE FUTURE,  NEW HORIZON’S,  FROM AN IDEA...,and most recently the 5th version, HOW TO WRITE YOUR BOOK.

In order to reach as many writers as possible, Barish-Stern became a speaker.  She  worked with business and private clients and showed them how writing can be used to better the performance and productivity of their lives and grow their businesses.  She also teaches how writing can improve health, realtionship building and overall quality of life.

Barish-Stern has also helped write and fully edit, “TELL OTHERS,” by 94 year old Marjorie Struck, “Seeing the Unseeable,” by 16 year old Ruth Cefola and most recently “Eaton's -the Second French Revolution,” by retired writer Kenneth Bray.

She was also responsible for the publication of many first-time writer’s works:

CHALLENGING MESSAGES FROM BEYOND
by Marjorie Struck

COMPASSION'S LURE by Kathleen Lukens

LOVE MAKES A DIFFERENCE by Mary Bianchini and Bobbi Madry

MAE SINGS ABOUT SHORT VOWELS by Karen A. Coleman

OPENING THE DOOR TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE by Daniel Windheim

THE POEM BOOK by Daniel Windheim

SWEET MERCY by Rebecca H. Cofer

THERE IS HOPE by Debby Paine

THE BEALE TREASURE CODES-THE KEY by Claudine Fulton Ellis

the GRANPA SPIDER stories by Granpa Spider

Barish-Stern has also edited numerous fiction and non-fiction works. She is also the author of the sci-fi /fantasy, Code 47 to BREV Force, trilogy, a mainstream story with a sci-fi take on relationships and coming of age, while dealing with family, friends, community, and the world around us.  She uses super-heroes in the world of computers, holograms, clones and sentient beings, to help our young people tackle life issues.

In the last few years she has again turned her attention to our youth and is tutoring many young writers.  In her efforts to bring out their creativity, Barish-Stern  has gone back to basics and uses her training from her alma mater, The Academy of Music and Theatre in New York, to help them unleash their creativity and imagination with an actor’s view of writing.  However busy, she continues to present writing seminars and writes her own stories and articles for the internet, newspapers and for various publications
